WineGB, the national association for the English and Welsh wine industry, have released a report using the most robust set data ever recorded for the industry.
England and Wales are seeing opportunities to grow their wine industries where Viticulture is one of the UK’s fastest growing agricultural sectors. In 2022, total production was 12.2 million bottles and is expected to rise to 25 to 29 million bottles in 2032.
WineGB believes the growth is because of its high quality and that it is sustainable, in that it is for the domestic market, being local and widely available. Consumers are demanding more locally produced, environmentally friendly products, something that English and Welsh wines are in a unique position to deliver.
Another interesting finding is that wine tourism is buoyant and shows positive growth trajectory. Income is up and now averages 24% of total revenue (which includes all sales, tours and other onsite activity). Visitor numbers are up 17% on 2021 (based on WineGB’s Tourism survey).
