The University of Gloucestershire’s Countryside and Community Research Unit (CCRI) is leading a consortium in a research project aimed at helping the UK farming and food sector measure and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
The consortium has been granted over £2.5 million in funding for the three year project. The CCRI will collaborate with Cranfield University, Harper Adams University, University of Aberdeen and Scotland’s Rural College, three major greenhouse gas accounting companies – AgreCalc, Farm-Carbon-Toolkit and the Cool Farm Alliance – and Savills natural capital team.
Currently, farmers have multiple tools to help them measure how many emissions and greenhouse gases they are producing and emitting (GHG accounting) but inconsistencies between them can cause issues.
The new project – called ‘To Zero Fifty’ Greenhouse Gas Accounting Living Lab – aims to develop a common framework amid the national strategy of reaching net zero by 2050.
