Food Redistribution Grant

This week the government has announced a £15 million Food Redistribution Grant.

This will help cover the costs of redistributing surplus food from producers, retailers and hospitality outlets to frontline charities and community groups.

The government estimates that 1.1 million tonnes of surplus food is wasted in the UK supply chain on an annual basis, with nearly 200,000 tonnes being edible and suitable for redistribution. This funding aims to bridge that gap, ensuring that more food reaches food banks and community groups instead of being discarded.

Eligible organisations can apply for funding via WRAP’s website, with applications open until March 2025 or until the funds are fully allocated.
