Digital Sandwich Scheme Gains Approval in UK

Following a two year development period, the Digital Sandwich scheme has been given the green light in the UK. Backed by the government the scheme aims to improve traceability in the UK food supply chain by indicating the source of ingredients, reducing waste and improving manufacturing productivity.

Organisations involved in the scheme include the Universities of Exeter and Lincoln, Crosspay, sandwich manufacturer Raynor Foods, Digital Catapult and IMS Evolve. The platform has received substantial funding from Innovate UK.

It is hoped that companies of any size that are involved in food supply chains will be able to participate in the programme which involves blockchain, AI and the Internet of Things (IoT).
