This month marks Organic September and you, as a consumer or shopper, can help mark the occasion.
Organic farmers aim to produce high-quality food, using methods that benefit our whole food system, from people to planet, plant health to animal welfare.
In the face of climate change, diet related ill-health and widespread decline in wildlife, the need to change our food systems has never been greater – a transition towards ‘agroecological’ farming systems, like organic, can make a world of difference.
As stated by the Soil Association if the whole of Europe switched to an organic or agroecological food and farming system, we would see a 40% drop in emissions. Half of this drop would come from a cut in the use of fossil fuel based nitrogen fertiliser.
