On its Shipston on Stour site in the Cotswolds, the popular Cotswolds Distillery has launched a wetlands ecological treatment for its waste water.
The project which began in May 2023 covers nearly two acres of former marshland which can process both residual liquid in the still after the second distillation and the wash water waste – used for rinsing tanks, floors and cleaning.
The clean water from the new treatment system will be used to grow a coppice of willows which in turn will provide a habitat for wildlife.
Founded ten years ago, Cotswolds Distillery is now the largest producer of English whisky and has become a leading tourist destination in the region, offering tours and tastings.
